Genki Nomad Insurance: Complete Explanation of Fees and Coverage Details
I’m going to the U.S., so I’m looking for insurance with generous coverage. I heard that Genki’s medical coverage is unlimited, is that true?

In conclusion, Genki’s medical coverage is unlimited in all countries, including the U.S..

In other words, Genki is a recommended insurance policy for those who plan to travel to the United States (or Canada) where medical expenses are high. Moreover, the monthly fee is reasonable!

Features of Genki

  • The insurance fee is a monthly subscription system (only one-month subscription is possible)
  • Premiums for those under 30 are €48.30 per month (including the U.S.)
  • Unlimited medical coverage (up to 500 euros for dental treatment)
  • No flight delay or loss compensation
  • Membership is possible even from overseas (waiting time is 14 days)
Genki is a nomad insurance that allows unlimited medical insurance in all countries, including the U.S., for €48.30 per month.

The U.S. is super expensive in terms of healthcare costs. Therefore, credit card insurance is not sufficient.

With Genki, you can subscribe for €48.30 per month. Moreover, medical coverage for hospitalization and outpatient care is unlimited. Other medical-related coverage is also substantial.

By the way, if you don’t plan to go to the U.S. or want to customize your insurance schedule in less than a month, Safety Wing is recommended

For more information, see What Makes Safety Wing Popular Among Digital Nomads? please refer to the page.
* Insurance schedule can be adjusted from as little as 5 days!

However, Safety Wing is not recommended for those who plan to travel to the U.S., as the maximum medical coverage is $250,000. It is a nomad insurance for people who go to countries other than the U.S.

On this page, I will explain in detail the price plans and coverage contents of Genki, which is a must-see for travelers to the U.S., so please refer to it!

What is Genki?

Genki is a Germany-based insurance company that provides insurance services. They offer two types of insurance;

Types of Genki Insurance

  • Genki Native
→ Insurance for those who are settled abroad
  • Genki Explorer
→ Insurance for overseas nomads who live abroad

If you are an overseas nomad, you can choose the “Genki Explorer” insurance type.

The differences between each insurance type are as follows.

Genki Native offers full insurance coverage for pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care, and is “for people who have settled in the country”. Monthly premiums are also high.

On the other hand, Genki Explorer is an insurance that starts at €48.30 per month for nomads.

By the way, Genki’s insurance plan does not have an option to include or not include the U.S., it covers the whole world. However, the monthly fee depends on the age of the subscriber.

Monthly Fees for Genki

Genki’s monthly fee depends on your age and the availability of options. Please refer to the table below for details.

What are the coverage limits in Canada and the U.S.?

You can save money on your monthly premiums by limiting your stay in Canada and the U.S. to a total of 42 days in six months.
* If you do not plan to stay in Canada and the United States, or if you will stay for less than 42 days in six months, add this option!

What is a €50 deduction per case?

At the time of insurance application, you will pay 50 euros per case. For example, in the case of a medical expense of 1,000 euros, 50 euros will be paid as a co-payment and the remaining 950 euros will be covered.

Regardless of your age or the presence of the above options, the insurance coverage is the same. We will explain this in detail below

Genki’s insurance provides unlimited inpatient and outpatient medical coverage. I think it is the best nomad insurance with the best cost performance.

For example, if you are up to 29 years old, you can get unlimited medical coverage in all countries, including the U.S., for €48.30 per month.

Also, even if you don’t plan to travel to Canada or the United States, the above coverage is quite cost-effective at €48.30 per month.

However, it is important to note that Genki is a nomad insurance that specializes in medical insurance, so it does not come with coverage for personal belongings, flight delays, loss of money, etc.

Things to pay attention to before taking out Genki’s insurance

If you are thinking of using Genki’s overseas insurance in the future, check out the following precautions at the end.

Precautions for Genki

  • Monthly subscription system
  • There is a 14-day standby time
  • No coverage for lost/stolen belongings
  • No flight delay or loss compensation
Genki is a monthly subscription that automatically renews every month after subscribing. Please note that if you no longer need insurance, you will continue to be charged premiums unless you cancel the contract yourself.

In addition, when you join from overseas, there is a waiting period of 14 days before the insurance is applied. Please note that during this period, even if you have completed the insurance enrollment process, you will not be covered by insurance.

Summary: Genki is a insurance specializing in medical insurance

When choosing overseas nomad insurance for a trip that includes the United States, I think that four main insurance services are candidates.

Nomad Insurance for the U.S.

  • Safety Wing
  • Heymondo
  • World Nomads
  • Genki

Of the above, Genki is the only insurance service with unlimited medical coverage.

However, since Genki is a monthly subscription insurance, you cannot choose the number of insurance days according to your travel schedule. It’s also important to note that it doesn’t cover flight delays, loss of money, or theft/loss of belongings.

For example, let’s compare the insurance premiums for a case where you plan to go to the U.S. for only five days.

Insurance PremiumsMedical insurance
(maximum amount)
Safety Wing$18.65$250,000
Heymondo$28.72$5 million
World Nomads$53.36$5 million
Genki€48.30Unlimitedness

* The above premiums are estimated for the insurance period of 5 days and the enrollment age of 29 years old.

If you’re planning to travel for a few days, Heymondo is a great deal because you can set it freely for the insurance period.

Medical insurance has a cap of $5 million, but it is enough coverage to cover high medical expenses in the United States.
